Former Moonstar 88 vocalist Acel Bisa is continuing her mission to champion Pinoy music on the global stage, bridging cultural divides and bringing a nostalgic slice of home to international audiences.
Bisa recently headlined an intimate, interactive “Filipino Night” organized by the Dutch Language Café in The Hague. The unique event drew a diverse crowd of local overseas Filipinos and European music enthusiasts alike. Stepping up to the acoustic microphone, Bisa delivered a heartfelt performance that seamlessly blended the past and present of Original Pinipino Music (OPM).
She treated the crowd to tracks from her latest solo album, Being and Becoming, while also tapping into the deep well of late-90s and early-2000s Pinoy alternative rock nostalgia. The venue transformed into a massive sing-along as she serenaded the audience with her signature rendition of the timeless anthem “Torete,” followed by energetic covers of Rivermaya classics “Elesi” and “Umuulan, Umaaraw.” Attendees noted that the language barrier dissolved instantly, proving that the emotional resonance of OPM transcends borders.
The successful Netherlands showcase serves as a vibrant prelude to a much larger global push. Looking ahead, Bisa is slated to join fellow OPM female rock icons Barbie Almalbis and Kitchie Nadal for a highly anticipated collaborative European tour this coming July.
The powerful trio will hit the road together, bringing their collective catalog of legendary hits to Filipino communities and music lovers across Ireland and France. Organizers promise an unforgettable series of full-band shows that celebrate the enduring impact of Pinoy rock’s most influential frontwomen. For European audiences, this summer tour offers a rare opportunity to witness an era-defining lineup live on stage.
